From Boulder the road runs paved through Long Canyon's red narrows, then turns to dirt at the Capitol Reef boundary and drops the famous Burr Trail switchbacks. 800 Feet of tight graded turns down the face of the Waterpocket Fold. Continue south on Notom–Bullfrog Road to Lake Powell or climb back out for the Strike Valley overlook. Graded dirt, washboard, a few sandy washes; impassable in monsoon mud. Fuel at Boulder and Bullfrog only. Camp at Cedar Mesa campground (free, 5 sites) or disperse on BLM outside the park. March–June, September–November.
