San Felipe → Gonzaga Bay
North · Sea of Cortez coast
Beginner–Intermediate
| Distance | ~90 mi + dirt spurs |
| Duration | 1 day + camp |
| Camping | Multi-day |
Highway 5 is now paved all the way to Gonzaga Bay, which turned this from an epic into a cruise, but the dirt is still there if you look. Old coast-road segments and beach spurs peel off toward Puertecitos (hot springs in the tide rocks) and a dozen empty campos; the Matomí wash route cuts inland through a palm canyon for the riders who want real sand work. Fuel in San Felipe and at Rancho Grande in Gonzaga, top up at both, the next gas south is far. Camp on the beach at Gonzaga or Papa Fernández. October–May. Watch for vados (dips) and cattle on the pavement at dusk; the shoulder sand is deep and soft everywhere.
